1:1 Training for Pain Relief

Training that addresses chronic pain at its source.

Build the strength you need from within to live a life free from chronic joint and muscle pain.

It seems like no matter what you try…

Yoga, chiropractic, stretching, massage…
Crossfit, weightlifting, physical therapy…
No matter how many hours or dollars you invest…

The pain in your body never fully goes away.
Whether it’s the ongoing tension in your neck and shoulders or lingering sensitivity after an injury…
You’re wondering if this pain is something you’re just going to have to live with.

That doesn’t have to be the case.
The problem is that chronic pain is a symptom of deeper issues going on in your body that most modalities fail to address in a comprehensive way. This leaves you stuck in a cycle of hopping from modality to modality finding only partial or short-term relief.

You need a system that allows your body to actually HEAL chronic joint and muscle pain by resolving its underlying causes.

The 2 underlying causes of most chronic joint and muscle pain are

  1. Improper movement
  2. Systemic inflammation

Human bodies have evolved over hundreds of thousand years to be incredibly well adapted to our environment.

We would walk vast distances following the seasonal availability of food.

We’d sprint and throw while hunting.

We were in constant contact with the earth and would wake and sleep with the sun.

Today, most of our lives carry little semblance to the environment our bodies evolved in.

Most people are relatively sedentary and have poor posture, and this lack of proper use of our body leads to our musculature being underdeveloped.

Underdeveloped muscles result in your bones and joints not being held in their correct alignments while you move throughout your day. Which then leads to joint instability, poor posture, injuries, and ultimately–pain.

This pain is then exacerbated by whole body inflammation due to the exposures of modern day living.
Toxins are in our food, drinking water, personal care and cleaning products…
We are constantly surrounded by artificial lighting that disrupts our circadian rhythm and leads to less restorative sleep.

Fortunately though, through introducing the right patterns of movement and reducing sources of inflammation, your body is capable of healing. This is what Functional Patterns is designed to do.

Functional Patterns was developed with a biological understanding of the body.

Functional Patterns methodology is threefold.

1. Relax adhesions in the muscles through myofascial release
Your body stores tension in a network of tissues that wrap around and support your organs and muscles. We use a self-massage technique called myofascial release to smooth and rehydrate stiffness points that keep you in poor positions and movement patterns.

2. Strengthen musculature to hold joints in their most optimal alignment as you move
FP exercises train your body to efficiently perform the core functions of the human body – standing, walking, running, and throwing. This is achieved through training 2 crucial functions:

  1. Elastic recoil: The ability of your muscles to “spring” back after applying a stretching force and
  2. Contralateral reciprocation: When opposite sides of your body are moving in opposite directions in a coordinated way.

These functions teach your muscles to move as the agile and integrated system they have evolved to be.

And this is what most other modalities are missing:

  • Chiropractic may realign the joints, and massage relieves muscle tension, but in both modalities, nothing is done to repattern the musculature in a way that keeps the results from reverting.
  • On the other hand, yoga, CrossFit, weightlifting, and physical therapy provide some isolated strength increases, but they typically don’t train elastic recoil and contralateral reciprocation across the body. Thus, your body doesn’t know how to hold the joint alignments and muscle engagements it needs to move pain-free.

In FP training, we start with the foundational exercises that teach you to engage your main muscle groups correctly. Once these engagements are established, we then build into movements that use these two functions in more dynamic and powerful ways.

3. Reduce sources of inflammation through intentional lifestyle changes
Learn how to support your body’s healing by shifting your diet and daily practices to accelerate your training results.

Investment: $4,000
or $685/month for 6 months

It is not required, but highly recommended, that training be done without a shirt. For women, a sports bra or tight fitting, light colored tank are best. Large or baggy t-shirts do not allow us to properly assess your movement.

It is strongly suggested (although not required) that other training modalities be discontinued. This includes traditional weightlifting, resistance training machines, HIIT, Zumba, stretching, and yoga.

You will be encouraged to eat animal protein.

You are not contractually committed to finish the 6 months of training, but most of our clients find that it takes at least 6 months to make meaningful and lasting progress. After completing the intro package, you’ll be eligible for month-to-month training packages.

We believe that everyone deserves to feel strong, confident and free in their body.

Your physical and mental well being are intimately intertwined.

Functional Patterns not only strengthens your body, but also improves your awareness of your body in time and space. As you train, you’ll become more intentional with your breath and build a deeper connection to the postures and shapes your body is making as you move.

As you implement the lifestyle habits we teach, you’ll be getting better sleep and have less inflammation that leads to feeling more energized throughout the day.

Moving and eating in accordance with our natural blueprint is foundational to our sense of wellbeing. Coming back to these basics creates physiological safety and helps your nervous system relax.

This process, paired with the reduction of pain, helps you feel more connected to and at home in your body.

Imagine a reality where your body isn’t a source of pain in burden, but instead enables you to fully enjoy all life has to offer–Functional Patterns makes this possible.

Our clients have healed injuries, improved muscular disorders, and avoided surgery through our training…even when nothing else was getting them results.

Client Testimonial #1 – Sarah

LOWER BACK AND NECK PAIN

Trainer: Chris

“Since starting Functional Patterns, my life has changed drastically for the better.”

Sarah started experiencing lower back and neck pain 6 years ago during her first pregnancy. At the start of our training together, she rated her neck pain 7-8/10 and her back pain 6-7/10. She would get neck cramps while picking things up that would cause sharp pains and loss of range of motion, as well as weekly migraines. This pain interfered with her ability to pick up her children or care for her home. Sarah had been wanting another child, but feared that being pregnant again would only make her pain worse.

After training together twice a week for 6 months, her migraine, neck cramps, and back pain have completely resolved. She’s no longer afraid of lifting items or her kids and is excited to try for another child while being committed to continuing training with FP throughout pregnancy.

Client Testimonial #2 – Spencer

CHRONIC SHOULDER PAIN

Trainer: Courtney

“It feels like I’m living in a different body.”

This is 1 year of progress for Spencer, training together consistently 1x per week. He came to me feeling incredibly broken and ready to give up hope. He had spent the last 5+ years working with medical doctors, physical therapists, several types of chiropractors and massage therapists. If anything helped, it was superficial and temporary. He had been told many times there was nothing else that could be done for him.

Before working together, Spencer had chronic pain all over his body, but especially his right shoulder and neck. He was experiencing headaches and pain-related depression while using cannabis and caffeine daily to try and mask the pain.

Once we began training, he quickly realized Functional Patterns was different, and it didn’t take long to make significant improvements to his pain levels. He puts in tremendous effort into his sessions and is dedicated to work outside of sessions as well. Now, he rarely feels pain, has a more positive outlook and can truly enjoy life again.

Client Testimonial #3

CHRONIC NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN

Trainer: Courtney

This client was dealing with chronic neck and shoulder pain due to multiple whiplash injuries. She spent years trying Rolfing and chiropractic with minimal results. The pain she was in was affecting her sleep and her ability to be as active as she likes.

We trained online, once per week for 22 months. She felt significant relief during the first month of us working together, but continued to train to increase muscle mass and improve her posture to better support her neck. Now she is pain-free and has the tools to address any minor issues that may come up in the future. She has been able to resume her normal physical activities (running & hiking) without issues.

Introductory Assessment

The first step to working with one of our Functional Patterns practitioners is to set up an Intro Session where we can gather valuable information about your health, analyze your most fundamental movement patterns, and get a deep understanding for what’s causing your pain issues.

Introductory Assessment Sessions are $150 for 90-minutes or $180 for 2 hours.

*Posture and Gait analysis must be done in minimal clothing. The ribcage and joints need to be visible to attain the most information possible.

Assessment Steps

Behavior + Nutrition Assessment

We begin with a thorough assessment of your lifestyle, nutrition habits, and overall behaviors to identify variables that may be contributing to your pain issues.

Posture + Gait Analysis

We take photos of your posture from all 4 sides and show you how your body compensates against gravity. Next, we record your gait cycle patterns and analyze your movement deficiencies.

Mini-Session

We finish with a “mini-session” that includes myofascial release, breathing techniques, and corrective techniques specifically chosen for the issues we saw present in the analysis.
